Treating Constipation with Herbs

Posted By kymom on November 12, 2011

There are many ways to cure constipation.  However, treating constipation with medicine and other methods can have side effects with them.  Curing your constipation in a natural way is easy, cost efficient and simple to do.  It will involve some lifestyle changes, but curing constipation naturally is effective for completely eliminating infrequent or mild episodes of constipation.

Some of the diet changes that can be made to help cure constipation are to eat more fiber.  Foods high in fiber would include fresh fruit, especially watermelon and berries, fresh vegetables, whole grains and beans.  It is also vital to drink one half your body weight in ounces of water.  For example, an individual weighing 150 pounds should drink 75 ounces of water per day for hydrating their body adequately.

Those who suffer from constipation should avoid all forms of alcohol, processed foods, and any drinks which contain caffeine.  Caffeine causes dehydration.

Exercising daily will also help to get things moving internally.  Even a thirty minute walk every day is extremely beneficial to overall health and well being.

Natural laxatives are available to help cure constipation by relaxing the bowel muscle walls and will also reduce anxiety and tension.  In addition, they have benefits related to the liver and gall bladder as they are important in the digestion of food.

Herbs were used for many centuries to help cure constipation.  They are becoming more popular today as a natural approach to constipation.  Aloe Vera, Dandelion and the Passiflora Species have laxative properties and are able to act as a tonic for the liver, aiding in the digestive process.  These herbs can be used as a treatment for both the occasional bouts of constipation as well as chronic constipation.  They have little to no side effects, making them even more appealing as opposed to modern day medications.

Herbs come in tablet form and you can change the amount you take depending on the severity of your constipation.  Herbs are the safest and often most effective way to cure constipation.  Use them in conjunction with some lifestyle changes for the best results.
