Heartburn Remedy: Feel better soon!!
If you suffer from heartburn, you know how difficult it can be to find a remedy that works for you. What is recommended to you by a friend or family member because it helps them, may not be the answer for you. There are both natural and medicinal remedies available to try for relief. The first thing to do is to try and pinpoint the things that cause your heartburn symptoms to start. Write down what you eat at each meal and also any activites that you do. Make note when heartburn starts and try to establish a common thread. Figuring out the things that trigger your heartburn will make it easier to eliminate it.
The most common foods that can cause heartburn are: chocolate, raw onions, tomatoes, citrus fruits and citrus fruit juices, carbonated beverages and fatty foods.
Sometimes lifestyle changes will help such as exercise and maintaining a weight that is healthy. Smoking can also be a trigger for heartburn as well as eating too close to bedtime. Try to eat your last meal of the day no less than three hours before you go to bed.
Waking up in the middle of the night with heartburn can sometimes be eliminated by raising the head of your bed so that your upper body is higher and stomach acid cannot move as easily into your throat.
If lifestyle and dietary changes don’t help you it may be time to seek the advice of your medical doctor. There are several heartburn medications to try. Your doctor may suggest an over the counter remedy first. Antacids can work quickly, but may not be the long term solution.
Prescription medications for heartburn will help to reduce stomach acid but will take longer to work than over the counter antacids. They may, however, be the answer for long term relief.
You can find both antacid and acid block combination drugs in some over the counter medicines now.
Frequent heartburn should be treated. Speak to your physician if you cannot get it under control yourself.
