Constipation and Pregnancy
Being pregnant should be one of the most joyous times of your life. But, unfortunately, preganancy often comes with many discomforts. One of them is constipation.
If you are pregnant and constipated….you are among a large number of women today. Constipation is very common during pregnancy. In fact, it affects more than half of the pregnant population during one time or another during their time “with child”.
There are many possible causes of constipation during pregnancy: anxiety, less exercise than normal, hormonal changes and a low fiber diet. Being constipated during pregnancy can be a challenge. It will be necessary to find remedies that are safe for you and your baby.
The best thing to do while pregnant is to try and “prevent” constipation. Here’s how:
Consume foods high in fiber such as whole grain cereals and breads as well as fruits and vegetables. Use a few tablespoons of wheat bran in your cereal in the morning. Drink a glass of water afterwards.
Speaking of water, be sure and drink plenty of it. Take how much you weigh, divide it by 2, and that is how many ounces of water you should drink everyday. Hydration keeps the digestive process running smoothly. Naturally sweetened juices, especially prune juice, are other liquid alternatives to help prevent constipation. But juices should not count toward your daily allowance of water.
Try and exercise some everyday. Walking can be a great stimulation for the bowels, therefore keeping constipation at bay. Yoga will also help digestion as well as give you a better overall sense of well-being.
If you find yourself too busy to take proper care of yourself during pregnancy, there are now safe colon cleansers on the market that are made from natural ingredients and are quite effective in relieving constipation and helping to maintain regular bowel movements.
