Constipation Relief
Millions of people suffer from constipation, either an occasional bout or a condition called chronic constipation.
For many years senna tea has been used to give constipation relief. It is a herb that can be used for chronic constipation. Senna can be purchased in health food stores or online.
Senna tea should be consumed for a relatively short period of time, about one week. This is due to the rapid movment of fecal substance through your colon while using it. Nutrients are not absorbed as they would normally be.
Start with a small amount of senna and only use what is required to produce a bowel movment.
ExLax, Correctol and Senokot are over the counter products that contain senna. Senokot also contains a substance that works as a stool softener.
If you buy senna tea at a health food or nutrition store, you can make it different ways to relieve your constipation.
One way is to let one tea bag steep in one and one half cup of water. Add the peel of a red potato. Then add a few slices of the potato itself and a teaspoon of bran and flax seed.
Simmer this recipe and then strain it to drink the liquid. Even a more severe case of constipation can benefit from this tea. The longer you let it simmer, the stronger it will be. Let it cool before you drink it to avoid as much cramping as possible.
Another tea you can make is Peppermint Senna Tea. Use one teaspoon of senna tea leaves with one half teaspoon of peppermint leaves. Boil 8 ounces of water, turn off the heat, and stir the leaves in. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add honey for sweetness.
Do not use senna or drink senna tea if you have any form of colon disease, abdominal pain, or if you are pregnant.
For an otherwise healthy person, senna tea is a great solution for bouts of moderate or chronic constipation.
