Types of Constipation Medicine

There are many ways to both prevent and treat constipation. Some people prefer a more natural approach. They choose a lifestyle that is not conducive to becoming constipated or, upon becoming constipated, choose natural or herbal remedies to alleviate it. But there are modern medicines that will work for constipation if that is the route you choose.
Laxative are one type of constipation medicine. Laxatives aid the muscles of the small intestine in moving their contents more quickly. They increase the amount of water in the stool. Some of the more commonly used laxatives include ingredients like castor oil, senna and aloe. Though effective, diarrhea is definitely a side effect of using them. Along with diarrhea can come cramping and dehydration. Laxatives should not be used long term because they can cause damage to the colon.
Enemas are also effective for treatment of constipation. There are many types and some of them contain the same ingredients as laxatives do. Saline enemas work by drawing water into the colon. Enemas with phosphate will stimulate the muscles of the colon. Mineral oil enemas soften hard stool for easier movement.
Impaction, which is the hardening of stool in the rectum, can be treated very effectively with enemas. But enemas, like laxatives, should not be used regularly as a constipation medicine. Frequent use can disturb the electrolyte balance in the body.
Suppositories can be used for constipation relief. Some suppositories will contain bisacodyl, which is a stimulant. Others are made of glycerin which will dissolve and lubricate the rectum for easier passage of hardened stool.
Overuse of any of these types of constipation medicine can result in the bowel losing its ability to work on its own. A doctors advice is always recommended before starting any type of medicine.
One should never use hot water, peroxide, detergents or hypertonic salt solutions for relief of their constipation. Serious complications such as rectal bleeding, shock, convulsions or even coma can be the end result.
If you develop hemorrhoids as a result of your constipation, try a safe treatment such as Venapro.

I once read that a herbal thea made of hamamelis can cure hemmorhoids. Is this true? Or is there a better alternative? thnx Lisa
have a much better solution and it truly is not a miracle just excellent science behind it-pardon the pun. Hemorrhoids are veins that are engorged with blood and has swollen and started to bulge from the rectum. The vessel walls are weak. You require to take a goodly dose of vitamin C that contains a lot of Bioflavonoids. This may strengthen the vessel wall and it must retract back. The bioflavonoids are rutin and hesperidan and take like one thousand mg total bioflavonoids a working day.
