Most Common Constipation Causes

Constipation is the most common gastrointestinal complaint by Americans.  Finding relief can be a great feeling if you are the one suffering from constipation.  But the key is to prevent constipation in the first place.  What are the most common constipation causes?

Constipation happens when the body has difficulty expelling waste from the colon.  This is because too much water has been absorbed and the feces cannot move through the intestinal tract without difficulty.  The result is hard feces that are difficult to expel.  This can be extremely uncomfortable and can cause pain and bloating.

What one person considers regularity in their bowel movements may not be the same for another.  Anxiety can worsen constipation so it is good to know what is causing your constipation so that you can prevent it from happening.

Eating a diet high in processed food and sugar can lead to constipation.  It is important to eat whole grains and vegetables to avoid constipation.  Raw vegetables are the best.

Lack of enough fiber is one of the constipation causes.  It is an essential nutrient for promotion of regular bowel movements.  According to the American Dietetic Association, it is recommended that twenty to thirty five grams of fiber are consumed everyday.  But they also report that Americans only take in around fifteen grams of fiber a day.  No wonder lack of fiber is one of the leading constipation causes.  Fiber will help to prevent the colon from absorbing too much liquid from the waste, thus allowing it to move more freely through the intestines.

Medications are also one of the constipation causes.  If you have recently become constipated, take note as to whether this happened after starting a new medicine.  There could be an alternate medication to take that is not so prone to causing constipation.

Too little exercise can cause constipation.  Taking a thirty minute walk several days of the week will help to keep things moving.  This activity can also destress you which will help if anxiety is one of your constipation causes.

If a case of constipation is severe, it may require a colon cleanse such as Bowtrol.

The most common constipation causes can usually be reversed with a lifestyle change of adequate fiber intake, plenty of water and some moderate exercise.
