Use DGL to Ease Acid Reflux Disease

Millions of Americans suffer from acid reflux disease and stomach ulcers.  This is primarily due to the fast food we consume and the large amount of fried foods that we eat.  Anxiety and stress can also contribute.  Instead of popping a pill and continuing on the same path of self destruction, there are natural remedies that are very effective.

One of the ways to help acid reflux is to slow down our eating and to try and eat at least four hours before going to bed.  It is also helpful to eat several small meals a day instead of two or three big ones.

If you are willing to try one of natures best natural supplements, though, look to DGL for obtaining relief.  Deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) is an extract of the licorice root.  Since licorice in its natural form can cause unwanted side effects, such as high blood pressure,  DGL is free of the ingredients that could have a negative influence on the body.  But it still contains the healthy, natural ingredients of licorice that have now been shown to help acid reflux and heal peptic ulcers.

DGL has anti-inflammatory characteristics that are soothing to the body.  It has been shown to reduce the size of ulcers as well as hasten the healing of both stomach and duodenal ulcers, which are located in the upper small intestine.  These are the most common sites of gastric ulcers.

DGL has been studied in its treatment of acid relux and ulcers and appears to be both safe and effective for long term therapy.  It is also believed that DGL contains antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.  A mouthwash containing deglycyrrhizinated licorice has been shown to provide dramatic improvement in the healing and pain management of mouth ulcers.

DGL comes in chewable tablets and can be purchased in most health food or nutrition stores.  They can also be ordered online.  The usual dosage is two tablets twenty minutes before each meal and then again before bedtime.  I have used DGL for over a year and it has greatly improved my acid reflux, especially while I sleep.
